Programs
- Education:
The Education
initiative was established to expand educational opportunities for blind
youth, emphasizing early intervention, access to quality math and science
education, and the acquisition of blindness skills.
- Employment
and Rehabilitation:
To increase the 30% employment rate of working-age, legally blind
adults, the
Jernigan Institute set forth its Employment and Rehabilitation initiative
to develop innovative employment interventions and model rehabilitation
programs.
- Jacobus
tenBroek Library:
A unique research and resource library established by the Jernigan Institute
to focus primarily on blindness from the perspective of the blind. Special
collections include the personal papers of our founder Dr. Jacobus tenBroek
and our second president Dr. Kenneth Jernigan.

Seniors:
The Jernigan Institute established its Seniors initiative with the
goal to improve resources and opportunities for blind senior citizens
to remain active, independent members of their communities.

Technology:
Technology is an important component to achieve full participation in
society, and the Jernigan Institute established its Technology initiative
to increase the development and commercialization of technology solutions
useful for the blind.
