On January 23, 2001, a group of officials from the Marriott Corporation came to the National Center for the Blind to tour the facility and learn about our programs and our plans for the future. They spent the day with President Maurer and joined NFB officials for lunch in the IBTC Conference Room. Several weeks later the Marriott Corporation made a gift to our building campaign of $500,000.
Grouped around the model of the NFB's proposed National Research and Training Institute for the Blind, which is displayed in the reception area of the National Center for the Blind, are (left to right) Curtis Jensen, Director of Government Sales, Marriott International, Inc.; NFB President Marc Maurer; Stephen Marriott, Senior Vice President, Culture and Lodging Sales Recruiting, Marriott International, Inc.; James Gashel, NFB Director of Governmental Affairs; Mary Ellen Jernigan, NFB Director of Operations; and Paul Davies, Senior Account Executive, Marriott International, Inc. (Note: Curtis Jensen volunteers his time to train puppies as possible future guide dogs. His current trainee, Chester, is shown in the picture.)
