## Using the BrailleNote Apex to create Nemeth code

1.    Use Keyview or a VGA monitor to display your work.  Keyview is recommended because sim Braille can be seen on the screen.  To download Keyview, visit www.humanware.com/support.  Navigate to the BrailleNote link, and press Enter.  Navigate tothe  software and press enter.  Navigate to the Keyview link, and press Enter.  Download and install the program.
2.    To use Keyview, press Space-o (spaces dots 1-3-5) v (dots 1-2-3-6) u (dots 1-3-6) Enter.  Start Keyview on your pc.  To use a VGA connection press Space-o (Space dots 1-3-5) v (dots 1-2-3-6) v (dots 1-2-3-6) Enter.  The document will be shown on a monitor as you type, but no Braille dots will be shown.
3.    Create a Keyword document from the main menu, type w (dots 2-4-5-6) type c (dots 1-4).  Choose your folder and press Enter.  Give the file a name and press Enter.
4.    Contracted Braille can be used at this point.  A student could type their name, the date, and the math assignment title.
5.    Type the word know (dot 5) k (dots 1-3). When contracted Braille is used, dot 5 k stands for the word know.
6.    Switch to Nemeth code mode by pressing Backspace-n (dots 1-3-4-5).  The user can then enter equations typing in Nemeth code and the math teacher can see a representation of what the student is typing.

Example 1.  5<6 5 (dots 3-4-5-6 dots 2-6) space is less than (dot 5 dots 1-3) space 6 (dots 3-4-5-6 dots 2-3-5).    Explain that in contracted Braille dot 5 k is the word know, but in Nemeth code it stands for the less-than sign.
Example 2.  6>5 6 (dots 3-4-5-6 dots 2-3-5) space Is greater than (dots 4-6 dot 2) space 5 (dots 3-4-5-6 dots 2-6).
Example 3.  5+2=7 5 (dots 3-4-5-6 dots 2-6) plus (dots 3-4-6) 2 (dots 3-4-5-6 dots 2-3) space equals (dots 4-6 dots 1-3) space 7 (dots 3-4-5-6 dots 2-3-5-6).
Example 4.  13-10=3 13 (dots 3-4-5-6 dot 2 dots 2-5) minus (dots 3-6) 10 (dots 3-4-5-6 dot 2 dots 3-5-6) space equals (dots 4-6 dots 1-3) space 3 (dots 3-4-5-6 dots 2-5)
Example 5.  7*7=49 7 (dots 3-4-5-6 dots 2-3-5-6) times (dot 4 dots 1-6) 7 (dots 3-4-5-6 dots 2-3-5-6) space equals (dots 4-6 dots 1-3) space 49 (dots 3-4-5-6 dots 2-5-6 dots 3-5).
Example 6 49/7=7 49 (dots 3-4-5-6 dots 2-5-6 dots 3-5) divided by (dots 4-6 dots 3-4) 7 (dots 3-4-5-6 dots 2-3-5-6) space equals (dots 4-6 dots 1-3) space 7 (dots 3-4-5-6 dots 2-3-5-6).
