Welcome to the Movement
We advance the lives of our members and all blind people in the United States. The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination, and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.

Legislative Priorities
2025 Washington Seminar
At Washington Seminar, our members convene to learn about and advocate for legislative initiatives that will improve the lives of blind Americans. Our 2025 priorities include the Websites and Software Applications Accessibility Act, the Medical Device Nonvisual Accessibility Act, and the Blind Americans Return to Work Act.
Websites and Software Applications Accessibility Act
The Websites and Software Applications Accessibility Act will end website and mobile application inaccessibility for blind Americans. Websites are required by law to be accessible, but without implementing regulations most businesses and retailers have little understanding of what accessible means.
Medical Device Nonvisual Accessibility Act
The Medical Device Nonvisual Accessibility Act will end unequal access to home-use medical devices for blind Americans. Digital interfaces prevent blind individuals from independently and safely operating home-use medical devices that are essential to their daily healthcare needs.
Blind Americans Return to Work Act
The Blind Americans Return to Work Act will eliminate the Social Security Disability Insurance earnings cliff and make other reforms to create true work incentives for blind Americans. Current law contains policies that discourage blind Americans from maximizing their earnings potential.
