National Federation of the Blind Comments on Recent Developments in New York

Baltimore, Maryland (March 12, 2008): Dr. Marc Maurer, President of the National Federation of the Blind, the nation’s oldest and largest organization of blind people, said: “The blind are as qualified as anyone else to take on key leadership roles and responsibilities in government.  In fact, blind people have held or are currently holding political office throughout the United States and the world.  The National Federation of the Blind is confident that incoming Governor Paterson will be an effective leader for the state of New York.  His service as governor will shatter the misconceptions and stereotypes that the National Federation of the Blind is working to dispel.  He will serve as constant proof to the citizens of New York and the nation that blind people can perform any task, from an entry level position to leading one of the largest states in the nation.”
