Parent outreach has been a priority of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) since the establishment in 1981 of Future Reflections, the NFB Magazine for Parents and Teachers of Blind Children. This outreach effort was quickly expanded in 1983 with the founding of the National Organization of Parents of Blind Children (NOPBC), a division of the National Federation of the Blind. And since 1985, the national office has had a dedicated volunteer and/or staff in the national office to specifically address parent outreach needs and programs. The national NFB parent outreach effort, the quarterly publication of Future Reflections, and the volunteer leaders in the NOPBC together create a seamless national, state, and local network of information, resources, and support for parents.
