Accessibility boutiques are workshops presented by our access technology experts that provide introductions to accessibility best practices and the latest trends in access tech.
The accessibility boutiques are offered by the National Federation of the Blind at no cost to Maryland citizens with support from the state of Maryland through the Nonvisual Accessibility Initiative grant administered by the Maryland Department of Disabilities.

The Portable Document Format, .pdf, has been around for a number of years and is one of the most common formats on the web and among professionals. It’s used in education, corporate, and public sectors. Join us to learn how to make PDFs accessible for colleagues, clients, or students. It is still one of the more complicated document types to make accessible, but accessibility is possible. Come to this presentation to learn:
- How a blind person uses a PDF document
- How to create an accessible PDF from a Word document
- Various methods to remediate PDF accessibility
- How to test a PDF with a screen reader
- What to do with scanned documents
- More resources for further learning
