Editing a newsletter, like being a parent, can be many things...frustrating,
hectic, scary...and a real pleasure and joy. The warm and positive responses
I received from the first edition did much to contribute to my joy and pleasure
in being a part of this newsletter. It is my hope that you will continue to
respond and share with all our readers your feelings, experiences, problems,
solutions and triumphs as a parent of a blind child. You will notice that we
are beginning a new feature, "Letters to the Editor". This is an excellent
way for you to share and to offer constructive criticisms and ideas for the
newsletter. We hope that educators will write in, too. You have a significant
impact on our childrens' lives, and we need to learn from each other.

Another important way you can share is with a contribution. We want to
to get this newsletter out to everyone who wants and needs it, but our subscription
list is growing by leaps and bounds and so, of course, are the costs.
Any donation ($2.00, $5.00, $10.00, or more) would be welcome. All contributions
to the NFB are tax-deductible. Checks should be made payable to:

You will want to pay special attention to the announcement in the "Hear Ye!
Hear Ye!", feature about a Seminar for Parents of Blind Children to be held
July 3rd at the 1982 NFB Annual Convention. I believe that you will find
that you have never attended a workshop like this one, or one that can be as
valuable. My own experiences as an adoptive parent of a blind child have
convinced me that the best way to really learn about blindness is from blind
people. Since the seminar is held in conjunction with the NFB annual convention,
it will be an excellent opportunity to meet and mingle with blind adults
from every part of the country and to learn about the issues of importance to
the blind. So, plan to come and stay a few extra days, or for the whole
convention if you can.
