The national headquarters of the National Federation of the Blind is an extensive facility located in Baltimore, Maryland.
The building, which encompasses an entire city block, was named the Jernigan Institute in 2004. Among its many features, it houses modern computer labs, training facilities, conference spaces, full-service dining facilities, the Jacobus tenBroek Library, the Independence Market, and the International Braille and Technology Center for the Blind.
Location
The NFB moved its national headquarters to Baltimore, Maryland, in 1978. We have been proud to call Baltimore our home for more than forty years.
Departments
The staff of the NFB are led by the President of the organization and have been organized into five major departments. The Office of the President coordinates the work of the other four departments. Each department includes an executive director that reports directly to the President.

The Office of the President coordinates the work of the entire organization and provides outreach, communications, legal, and management support across the organization.
Advocacy and Policy
The Advocacy and Policy department implements the policy priorities of the Federation, provides advocacy expertise, and pursues strategic activities to advance our mission of full integration of the blind into society on terms of equality.
Blindness Initiatives
The Blindness Initiatives department plans and executes the majority of our education, technology, training, and research programs, and manages the Independence Market as well as the Jacobus tenBroek Library.
Fiscal Services
The Fiscal Services department manages the financial and business operations of the national organization.
Operations
The Operations department oversees all day-to-day operations both at the national headquarters and during our national convention.
