Past Presidents

Since its founding in 1940, the National Federation of the Blind has had eight Presidents. Three of these leaders—Dr. Jacobus tenBroek, Dr. Kenneth Jernigan, and Dr. Marc Maurer—served for a total of sixty-eight years. 

Mark A. Riccobono

Mark A. Riccobono was first elected President of the National Federation of the Blind in 2014 and has been re-elected every two years since. 

Dr. Marc Maurer

Dr. Marc Maurer was first elected President of the National Federation of the Blind in 1986 and was re-elected every two years until choosing not to run again in 2014. 

Dr. Kenneth Jernigan

Dr. Kenneth Jernigan was first elected President of the National Federation of the Blind in 1968.

Dr. Jacobus tenBroek

Dr. Jacobus tenBroek founded the National Federation of the Blind and became its first President in 1940.
