Global Blind Community Comes Together in Support of Ukraine’s Blind
Over one hundred blind performers and blind leaders will participate in a benefit concert scheduled for April 16, 2022.
Baltimore, Maryland (April 14, 2022): The National Federation of the Blind, the transformative membership and advocacy organization of blind Americans, is an active member of the World Blind Union (WBU), which recently established the Ukrainian Unity Fund. The global online blind community is coming together to raise funds for the WBU Ukrainian Unity Fund with a benefit concert of blind performers.
On Saturday, April 16, at 2 p.m. Eastern Time, the global online blind community is hosting the We’re With U! Concert. With over one hundred blind performers including several members from the NFB’s Performing Arts Division, this concert will benefit the blind of Ukraine. The National Federation of the Blind is leading US efforts to participate in this concert and support the WBU Ukrainian Unity Fund.
“Like all Americans, members of the National Federation of the Blind are experiencing horror and heartbreak as we digest the relentless news of the vicious attack on Ukraine and its people,” said Mark Riccobono, President of the National Federation of the Blind. “We also know that in the wake of the devastation, blind Ukrainians will have specific needs, such as white canes and access technology, which may not be met by more general relief efforts. Through the World Blind Union, of which we are a proud member, we join with the global blind community not only to financially support Ukraine’s blind, but also to express our love for them and our collective hope for peace through the universal language of music.”
