Lake Barkley, Kentucky (September 5, 2007): The National Federation of the Blind of Kentucky, an affiliate of the oldest and largest organization of the blind in the country, the National Federation of the Blind (NFB), will hold its annual convention from Friday, September 7, to Sunday, September 9.  The convention will take place at Lake Barkley State Park.  Dr. Marc Maurer, president of the National Federation of the Blind, will be the keynote speaker at the convention’s annual banquet.  “The annual state convention is a great environment for learning, sharing of ideas, and networking with other blind residents of Kentucky,” said Cathy Jackson, president of the NFB of Kentucky.

This year’s convention will kick off with a Student Division picnic on Friday at 5 p.m. as well as a dance and auction beginning at 9 p.m.  The auction will raise money for the Murray chapter of the NFB.  The theme of this year’s convention is “Rehabilitation and the Importance of Consumer Choice.”  On Saturday, representatives from the Kentucky Office for the Blind will speak about the rehabilitation program offered in Kentucky.  NFB members who have trained at the Charles McDowell Center in Louisiana. the training center for the blind in Kentucky, will also give presentations.  In addition to the exciting keynote address given by Dr. Marc Maurer, Saturday’s banquet will also include the presentation of scholarships to capable blind students who are pursuing higher education.
