Tips on how to use ACE Plus
ACE Plus is the latest personal multifunctional assistant from ABISEE. It scans and reads printed materials out loud, and it saves OCR-converted text on its internal hard drive or on a USB flash drive. It does this quickly and accurately. It also alerts you when a scheduled activity is due, enables you to send and receive emails, downloads ebooks, stores your photo album to share with friends and family and wakes you up when your alarm clock is set. Here are some tips on how to get the maximum from the device.
Tip 1. Short cut to Scanning and Reading
Place a printed page alongside the base of the device, so that ACE Plus captures the entire 8.5 by 11 inch space. No matter where you were in the Main menu previously, just press the Scan button and enjoy listening to the content of the page.
Tip 2. How to get best results in Scanning and Reading Mode
Avoid bright direct or sun light. Place a blank sheet of white paper under a small-sized document that is being scanned to improve contrast and minimize glare if the scanning area is dark, shiny, or has a complex grainy pattern.
Tip 3. How to Scan and Read small glossy plastic cards, such as employee badges, hotel keys, Starbucks gift cards etc., but not credit cards
Place the plastic card in the middle of the upper right quadrant of the 8.5 by 11 space, about an inch or inch and a half from the device. Turn the device’s lights off. Press the Scan button. Enjoy reading.
Tip 4. How to access NFB Newsline, and download ebooks from Bookshare
The item below will be available in the next major release of the software. The Bookshare connection is available now, not NFB newsline
Make sure your NFB and Bookshare accounts are entered correctly and saved on the device. Press the round DAISY button located on the left side of the top panel to check the status of the network connection. If the network is available, get connected to the Newsline or Bookshare and enjoy the news and books. If not, enter your username and password to get connected to the network.
Tip 5. Shortcut to entering email addresses into the Address Book
Use the right wheel and the right action button located above the right wheel to enter an email address character by character. Use the “Up Arrow" or Down Arrow” DAISY button located on the left side of the top panel to change the letter case, to access symbols, and to use frequently used email extensions and numbers. Use the “Right Arrow” button to save an email address.
Tip 6. How to check battery level
When ACE Plus is used for an extended period of time on battery charge, press the round DAISY button on the left side of the top panel to check the battery status. ACE Plus will announce out loud when 15% of battery charge is left and will turn off when there is only 10% battery charge left.
