National Federation of the Blind Bulletin Board

The bulletin board displays a vibrant solar system with planets, moons, and stars orbiting the sun—each symbolizing one of the five essential elements of success for blind individuals. These key elements include:

  1. It is okay to be blind.
  2. Mastery of the alternative skills of blindness leads to greater confidence and independence.
  3. Dealing gracefully yet assuredly with public attitudes about blindness helps dispel outdated myths about blindness.
  4. Blending in adds up to fuller integration and inclusion in the best that society has to offer.
  5. Giving back is the full measure of success as a blind person.

Each person’s journey toward success is unique. No matter the path you take, if you strive toward your goals, you’ll find the tools, guidance, and support you need—just like reaching for the stars and moons that guide you closer to your dreams.
The stars are interchangeable around the board and attached with Velcro, symbolizing that each person’s journey toward their goals of success (each planet) is unique.
