6 Dot Dashing into Summer
The 6 Dot Dash, a competitive 6K run/walk through the Riverside and Inner Harbor neighborhoods of Baltimore, is where members of the Federation family and members of the Baltimore community come together to raise awareness of the issues facing blind people. Supporters of the 6 Dot Dash, from our wonderful staff and volunteers to the great sponsors and participants of the race, know that blindness is not the characteristic that defines individuals or their future. This race is just one of the ways members of the Federation continue to show the Baltimore community and the world that blindness does not hold us back.
Now in its fourth year, the 6 Dot Dash began as a race to advance Braille literacy. Literacy is power, and we know that learning Braille is an integral part of giving blind children and adults the power to define their own destinies. The race has now become a shining example of how blind people can live the lives they want and compete on equal terms with their sighted peers. These are the types of opportunities the Federation fights for every day. Whether it’s Braille in schools, access to technology and books, or fair wages for blind workers, the Federation works continuously to make sure blind people have a level playing field.
Whether you're looking for a way to support a local charity or you want a fun activity to share with your friends and family, the 6 Dot Dash is a perfect excuse to get outside on a beautiful June morning. We have great music and entertainment, a group warm-up session before the race, fun activities for kids, and delicious snacks at the finish line. Each year this race grows and we meet new friends, but we also have neighbors who have made running the 6 Dot Dash an annual tradition. Trevor, a runner from Baltimore’s Federal Hill neighborhood, has now won the race the last two years. Will you be the one to dethrone the reigning 6 Dot Dash champion?
Join us for the 6 Dot Dash on June 5. Runners and walkers of all age and skill levels are welcome. If running's not your thing, that's okay! We always need people to cheer our runners to the finish line. We're also looking for volunteers to help with the race, so if you'd like to get more involved, please contact Anil Lewis at [email protected] or (410) 659-9314 extension 2374.
