Dear President Obama:
Braille is one of the most important things in my life. It provides literacy and allows me to connect with the world. I was born with congenital cataracts, and I acquired glaucoma as a young child.
During my childhood I had significant remaining vision in my right eye and some vision in my left. I was educated in public school, where I learned to read print alongside my sighted peers. When I was fourteen, I lost the good vision in my right eye. This left me functionally illiterate since I had lost most of my vision and had no experience with Braille.
Sincerely,
Lora Felty
