NFB EQ Week 4: July 25-30, 2021

Tuesday, 7/27 Practice 1 (essential asynchronous)
Tuesday, 7/27 Solve (asynchronous)
Wednesday, 7/28, 3-5p EST Connect Wednesday (essential synchronous session)
Thursday, 7/29 Practice 2 (essential asynchronous)
Thursday, 7/29, 4-5p EST Connect+ (optional synchronous session)

Instructions

Remember learning about Multiview drawings in Ann’s class? A Multiview drawing is a format that engineers use to convey the details of a design. Each Multiview drawing contains 3 projections (front view, top view, and right-side view). The 3 projections are arranged in a print L shape. The top left projection is the top view. The bottom left projection is the front view. Finally, the bottom right projection is the right-side view.

The snap cube graphics are Multiview drawings of different arrangements of snap cubes (small plastic cubes that snap together). Note: Pages 2-5 each contain 1 Multiview drawing. Page 1 contains 2 Multiview drawings, one on the top half of the page and one on the bottom half of the page.

Solve the puzzles

  1. Pick 1 of the Multiview drawings to begin with. I suggest you start with page 2, but start wherever you’d like.
  2. Examine the graphic and try to construct the object cube-by-cube in your mind.
  3. Use the snap cubes to construct what you’ve pictured in your head
  4. Check your work. View your object from the front, does it match the bottom left projection on your graphic? Now look at the top of your object, does it match the top left projection? How about the right side?
    a. If your object does not seem to be matching the graphic, try rotating it. You may just have the object oriented differently than it is illustrated in the drawing.
  5. Work through the rest of the snap cube graphics include both of the Multiview drawings on page 1.
  6. If you get stuck, it is OK. Take a break and try again later. Reach out to your NFB EQ Online peers for tips.

Having fun? Want to try something else?

  1. Make an object from the snap cubes.
  2. Use your sensational blackboard to create a tactile Multiview drawing of your object.
  3. Give someone else your tactile Multiview drawing and some snap cubes. Explain how to read a Multiview drawing. See if they can make your object using the drawing.
  4. Get the other person to make an object out of snap cubes and draw a tactile Multiview drawing of it. Now you try to make their object.
