2021 NFB EQ Instructional Materials

En Español: NFB EQ Sitio web de instrucción en línea

Introduction

NFB EQ Online is composed of 6 elements. The elements build on one another to help develop your spatial thinking skills and STEM knowledge. Ideally, you’ll engage with each element in sequence each week following the schedule listed below. We know everyone’s life and schedule outside of NFB EQ is different. If the ideal schedule listed below does not work for you, adjust it to best fit your life.

Scheduling is most important for the Connect and Practice activities, which we call essential. Doing the essential activities at the scheduled time is necessary for you to progress through the program. If you miss an essential activity you’ll likely feel behind. The nonessential activities are more flexible and can be done at whatever time works best for you. The table below outlines the 6 elements and the ideal timing of each.

Element Description When Format
Engage Engage with provided media (text, video, art, audio) to begin thinking about the topics for the week. Sundays Asynchronous
Connect (essential) Interactive whole group Zoom sessions Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays Synchronous on Zoom
Solve Exercise your spatial thinking muscles and see if you can find the solution to the puzzle of the week Tuesdays Asynchronous
Practice (essential) Continue building the skills and knowledge you developed in the week’s Connect session Tuesdays, Thursdays, & 1 Saturday Asynchronous
Connect+ Drop in to get additional support from NFB EQ instructors or to hang out with your peers Thursdays Synchronous on Zoom
Extend Take what you’ve been learning throughout the week to the next level Saturdays Asynchronous

At NFB EQ our goal is to create a space where everyone feels safe and free to learn together. If you find aspects of this program inhibit your learning or exclude you, we hope you’ll let us know. We know telling authority figures that their programs are inaccessible can be uncomfortable and requires emotional labor. We’ll be grateful for anything you choose to share about your access needs.

What’s the Purpose of the Instructional Web Pages?

This page and the associated weekly pages, which will become available on Friday evenings, provide an overview of what we’ll be doing each week as well as links to all of the digital documents and links you’ll need.

We recommend you bookmark this main page and spend 5-10 minutes over the weekend reviewing the page for the coming week.

Stay Connected

Join the NFB EQ GroupMe to stay connected with everyone outside of Zoom sessions.

During the program if you have questions, you can direct message Natalie on GroupMe or send an email to [email protected].

Important: Do Before July 5

Before our first Connect synchronous program session, gather 6 objects that tell the story of who you are and come up with a 30-60 second description of each.
