National Federation of the Blind Comments on the Need for Accountability Regarding Rideshare Discrimination
Baltimore, MD (June 26, 2026): The National Federation of the Blind issued the following statement from its national President regarding the need for public policies that allow rideshare companies to deactivate drivers who discriminate against blind or deafblind riders.
Mark A. Riccobono, President of the National Federation of the Blind, said:
"Blind people rely on rideshare services every day to live, work, and travel independently. That access must be free from discrimination. When drivers refuse service to riders who are blind, disabled, or traveling with guide dogs, there must be meaningful accountability, including the ability to remove those drivers from the platform. Policies that weaken that accountability undermine equal access. The National Federation of the Blind supports efforts that uphold strong protections against discrimination and ensure that blind people can travel with confidence and dignity."
