National Federation of the Blind of Maine. It is a moving illustration of the importance
of our scholarship program. This is what Diana Knox said:

NOPBC meetings have a reputation for being lively, fast-paced, and information-packed.
In all respects, the 1998 meeting lived up to that well-earned reputation. The meeting
began with some brief business items—the reading of the minutes and the nominating
committee's report—and ended with the election of the following officers and board
members:

Editor's Note: Sally Miller, President of the South Carolina Parents of Blind Children,
was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Organization of Parents of Blind
Children at the Annual Meeting in Dallas. It was her first National Federation of the
Blind (NFB) Convention. With her energy and organizational skills, she made quite an
impression on her fellow parents. The NFB Convention also made quite an impression on her.

It is time to plan for the 1999 convention of the National Federation of the Blind.
Last year's convention in Dallas was one of the best we have ever experienced—a great
hotel staff, a truly impressive program and exhibits, and fellowship of the highest order.
The year before, 1997, we set an attendance record in New Orleans. Atlanta in 1999,

Dr. Kenneth Jernigan In Memoriam
On October 12, 1998, Dr. Kenneth Jernigan, one of the most outstanding blind leaders
the world has ever known, died peacefully at his home in Baltimore, Maryland. The lung and
bone cancer he had been battling for about a year finally prevailed. The funeral took
place at St. Joseph's Monastery Church in Baltimore, and his body was buried at Loudon
