NAIL FUNGUS TREATMENT

Under certain conditions, a person can develop a

fungal infection under the fingernail or toenail. If you have diabetes, you are more

likely to develop such an infection. And this onychomycosis is more than cosmetic; it can

seriously complicate foot care.

Part of diabetic foot care consists of minimizing

or promptly treating any condition which might encourage foot infections. Fungal

infections (such as "athlete's foot") dry and crack the skin and encourage

the doctors say, and our family has had more than its share. My son Bill was
diagnosed in 1980, my son Jim in 1987, and I moved from glucose intolerance
to adult onset diabetes in the fall of 1990. This is our story.

During this year's annual convention
of the National Federation of the Blind in Dallas, Texas (Saturday, July 4 through
Friday, July 10), dialysis will be available. Individuals requiring dialysis
must have a transient patient packet and physician's statement filled out prior
to treatment. Conventioneers should have their unit contact the desired location
in the Dallas area for instructions.

is a serious disease. Its consequences can be major, even life-threatening,
and it can kill you quickly if ignored. We know this. But there are still many
people, folks with diabetes and folks around them, who do not take the condition
seriously.

Denial is the psychological state in which one

feels exempt from reality. "The rules do not apply in MY case; I'M different!"
